Project Rough Draft #1

As a point of interest, we would like to investigate into the idea of segregating sensory experience from the immersive space.
Can sensory experiences be obtained in a successful manner, one that is just as successful as we experience when upon entering a space, when approaching an object.
We plan to create miniature interiors, or set models, encased in a wooden cube. The cube, as a case or housing will posses it’s own behavioral aspects brought on by user cursorily and fascination.
Four small interior/ exteriors(to be determined) will hang from the gallery ceiling. From a distance the set will be visible for the viewer to see, but as encroaching on this world occurs, the behavior of the encasing will become hostile and quickly hide the miniature sets from the viewer so that detail can never really be seen from a close distance.
Questions posed: The Behavioral aspects of the box must be determined obviously by the content incased within. Are the worlds one, which can be realized but never met, or are they private spaces that can only be examined from a distance and in an arbitrary fashion, never really being able to speculate on the action that took place within this space. This will obviously set the ground for most aspects of our piece, a thesis that will determine most of the constraints of the world and their allowance, or prevention of the audience being able to immerse themselves within that space.
We are interested in working with wood and Plexiglas as these are materials that we feel comfortable. We are also contemplating the use of light, but this might be the most aspect of the piece in regards to working small scale.
We will need to begin diagramming the construction and deconstruction of the box, as this will remain as a necessary concern even if the behaviors change- opening will represent a world in a comfortable state and the act of closing will represent a world in a state of hostility.
We will need to determine the smallest possible size that we can add detail to our miniatures (as we want them to be quite small). How they will be constructed, and out of what combination of materials.
Also where will the hardware, a casing for the hardware, wires, sensors, power source, and computer be situated in the gallery space?
First tasks include creation, in sketches, the content of these worlds and this will provide a stepping-stone into determining the behavior for the boxes and most things will stem from this.
